The
success of environmental education programs in the
different educational stages in achieving the aims of
providing students with environmental values for
conservation the environment depends on how far
conservation of the teacher himself believes in them.
Teachers play a vital role in building the
values and developing them in their students generally
and providing them with the Environmental values
particularly. Consequently, the urgent need arises to
identify the reality of the environmental Values of
students in faculties of education as they are the
institutions in charge of teachers’ education and
pre-service training. |
|
|
|
It Could be formulated in the following main
question :
¤
What are
the environmental values for students at faculties of
Education?
Out of this question, the following minor questions
arise:
1- To what extent do faculties of education students
have Environmental values?
2- To what extent do the Environmental values of
Faculties of education Students differ according to
the Grade?
3- To What extent do the environmental values of
faculties of education students differ according to
the Sex?
4- To what extent do the environmental values of
faculties of education students differ according to
the Specialization of study?
5- To what extent do the environmental values of
faculties of education students differ according to
the Section?
6- What is the suggested project to develop the
environmental values of faculties of education
students and provide them with skill of teaching these
values? |
|
|
|
1- To prepare a theoretical framework on the
environmental values, their concept and kinds through
review of literature in this field.
2- To identify the reality of the environmental values
of students in faculties of education.
3- To identify how far the environmental values of
these students differ according to the grade, the sex,
the specialization of study and the sections.
4- To setup a suggested project to develop the
environmental values of faculties of education
students and provide them with skill of teaching these
values. |

-
First Hypothesis:
There are statistically significant difference between
the two means of students’ marks in faculties of
education according to the grade (Grade one / Grade
four) in the environmental values questionnaire
(E.V.Q) .
-
Second Hypothesis:
There are statistically significant difference between
the two means of students’ marks in faculties
according to the sex ( male / female ) in the (E.V.Q)
.
-
Third Hypothesis:
There are statistically significant difference between
the two means of students’ marks in faculties of
education according to the specialization of study
(Science / Art) in the (E.V.Q) .
-
Fourth hypothesis:
There are statistically significant difference between
the two mean of students’ marks in faculties of
education according to the section. (General / primary
education) in the (E.V.Q). |
|
|
|
The study has used the descriptive method as it is
suitable for its nature. As
for the tool, the researcher has prepared the
Environmental values questionnaire ( E.V.Q ) .
|
|
|
|
The study was restricted to a representative sample of
male and female students in grade one and grade four
from both the general sections and primary education
section from Damietta faculty of education and
Mansoura faculty of education
. The sample is composed of ( 284) male /
female students. |

|
In the light of the problem and in louder to answer
it’s questions and test the hypotheses , the study
follows the following steps :
-
Chapter one :
It deals with the general framework of study through
the statement of the problem, questions, importance,
aims, method, tools and procedures.
-
Chapter two :
It contain some of the
previous studies both in Arabic and English, analysis
them and shows how this study benefits from them.
-
Chapter three :
It deals with the philosophic and social aspects of
values by presenting the concept of values and its
relation to other concept, characteristics and
importance of values, sources, classification and
social task of values. |
|
-
Chapter four :
It deals with the environmental values and
environmental Education for Pre-service training of
teachers at faculties of education through analyzing
the development of man’s relation to environment , the
position of the environmental values , the aims of
studying the environmental values , characteristics ,
classification , kinds of the environmental values
facing the environmental problems and the aims of the
environmental Education for pre-service training of
teachers at faculties of education .
-
Chapter five :
It deals with the field study and building up the
tool of the study (E.V.Q) which the researcher
prepared and showed to a group of juries to modify it
in order to be applied .
The questionnaire includes sixty situational
statements to measure the following environmental
values :
a) The aesthetic value of environment.
b) The value of preserving the environmental
resources.
c) The value of protecting the environment from
pollution.
d) The value of being keen to face the over-population
problem.
e) The moral value towards the environment.
Then, the questionnaire
was applied to the sample and the result were recorded
and statistically processed and then explained. |
|
-
Chapter six :
The suggested project deals with developing the
environmental values of faculties of education
students and providing them with skills of teaching
these values , the bases on which the suggested
project is based are :
a) Environmental Education as an approach to
developing the environmental values of faculties of
education students.
b) The teacher’s roles in providing and developing the
values in general and the environmental values in
particular.
c) Different Strategies of teaching the environmental
values .
In the light of these bases and through the
theoretical frame work and field study , the
researcher formulated this suggested project which
includes :
- aims of the project.
- Strategies of carrying out the project.
- Suggested methods of
evaluation to ensure that the aims of the suggested
project have been achieved.
The researcher concluded by offering some general
recommendations and suggestions. |

The study has reached the following findings :
1)
¤
As for the first hypothesis ,
It
has been proved from the analysis of variance results
that this hypothesis is partially verifiable as there
were statistically significant difference between the
mean of the first year students’ marks and that of the
fourth year students’ in the aesthetic value of
environment at the level (0.01) and in the
environmental values as the whole at the level (0.05)
in favor of the first year students.
However, this hypothesis is not verifiable in the
value of preserving the environmental resources , the
value of protecting the environment from pollution and
the moral value towards environment , as there were no
statistically significant differences between the mean
of first year students’ marks and that of fourth year
students’ in those three environmental values.
¤
As for the second hypothesis ,
It
has been proved from the analysis of variance results
that this hypothesis is partially verifiable as there
were statistically significant difference between the
mean of the male students's marks and that of the
female students’ in the aesthetic at the level (0.01)
, the moral value towards environment at the level
(0.01) and the environmental values as a whole at the
level (0.01) in favor of female students . However,
this hypothesis is not verifiable in the value of
preserving the environmental resources and the value
of protecting the environment from pollution as there
were no statistically significant difference between
the mean of the male students’ marks and that of the
female students’ in these two values .
|
|
¤
As for the third hypothesis,
It
has been proved from the analysis of variance results
that this hypothesis is not verifiable as there were
no statistically significant differences between the
mean of the science students’ marks and that of the
arts students’ in the environmental values as a whole
and also in each environmental value .
¤
As for the forth hypothesis ,
It
has been proved from the analysis of variance results
that this hypothesis is partially verifiable as there
were statistically significant difference between the
mean of the general selection students’ marks and that
of primary education section students’ in the
aesthetic value of environment at the level (0.05) ,
the value of being keen to face the over population at
the level (0.05) , and in the environmental values as
a whole at the level (0.05) in favor of the primary
education section students , However, this hypothesis
is not verify able in the value of preserving the
environmental resources and the value of protecting
the environment from pollution as there were no
statistically significant difference between the mean
of the general sections students’ marks and that of
the primary education students’ in these two values . |
